The Town of Stettler was named after Carl Stettler, a native of Switzerland who came to Alberta in 1903. The town started when two businessmen from Calgary erected a few buildings. After a short while a post office and a few buildings were moved on what is now 50th Avenue. Within a few months, a vigorous new community had materialized. Stettler officially became a town in the spring of 1906. The major industries are agriculture, oil and gas service and supply industries and tourism. We are surrounded by many ponds, lakes and rivers which serve as a natural habitat for a wide variety of waterfowl. The migration of waterfowl to the area attracts hunters from many parts of North America.
