Clearview, ATA and CUPE join together to help local food banks!
Clearview and staff are providing $2,200 towards ensuring families have enough to eat over the holiday season.
On November 30, 2017 the Clearview Public Schools Board of Trustees, the Alberta Teachers’ Association Local 33 (ATA), and Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 4292 (CUPE) presented donation cheques to Sharon Sommer from the Stettler Food Bank. On December 7, 2017 representatives from Clearview and the ATA Local presented donation cheques to Sue Goodkey from the Castor Food Bank. This holiday season Clearview and the ATA Local will also be making cheque contributions to the Coronation Food Bank.
The Board of Trustees for Clearview Public Schools uses this opportunity during the holiday season to provide a donation to the local food banks on behalf of Clearview staff, in lieu of staff receiving a gift. In past years, Clearview staff have shown appreciation for the Board providing this help to families in need during this time of year. A donation of $1,000 from Clearview and $1,000 from the ATA is divided between three local food banks. CUPE has also contributed $200 towards this shared initiative.
Last year Betty Birch from the Stettler Food Bank shared, “We have a great community, and we see that all of the time by all of the donations that we receive that allows us to keep our Food Bank stocked up so that no families have to go hungry. Food Bank usage in Stettler and other areas continues to increase. The holidays can be a stressful enough time without worrying if you can keep your family fed, and donations such as the ones made by Clearview and their staff go a long way to helping ease that stress for families in need.”
The Stettler Food Bank would like people to know the Food Bank accepts cash or non-perishable donations. They are also in need of volunteers, as it takes about 13 people per week to keep the Food Bank up and running. If you are interested please call Betty Birch at 403-742-0732.
Clearview Public Schools Trustees Becky Scott and Greg Hayden, ATA Local 33 President Corey van Zandbergen and CUPE Local 4292 President Dawn Gordon presented cheques to Sharon Sommer from the Stettler Food Bank on November 30, 2017 at Clearview Public Schools Central Office.
Clearview Public Schools Trustee Erika Grice and ATA Local 33 President Corey van Zandbergen presented cheques to Sue Goodkey from the Castor Food Bank on December 7, 2017 at the food bank.
A presentation to the Coronation Food bank will be held before Christmas at the local food bank.
