Leighann Doan

LEIGHANN DOAN (REIMER) received her education to grade 9 in Halkirk School, and then graduated from Wm. E. Hay Composite High School in 1996. Many of her skills as a basketball player were developed as one of the more dominant players on the Wildcat team. She was top scorer in the Central Alberta Schools Athletic Association in grades 10, 11 and 12, leading the team to three appearances in the 3A Provincial Championships. Leighann was the Wm. E. Hay Sally Bishop Athlete of the year in grades 11 and 12, and was recognized in 1996 as "Miss Alberta Basketball", as the top female player in Alberta. In her senior year, Leighann captured the Shot Putt gold at the Provincial Championships. She was also an outstanding academic student, being awarded a Rutherford Scholarship.

During her five years at the University of Calgary, Leighann had a very distinguished basketball career, whilst pursuing a Bachelor of Education degree. Leighann won a variety of awards. These include the CIAU Rookie of the Year, three years Academic All-Canadian, U of C Athlete of the Year, Calgary Athlete of the Year, U of C's all time leading scorer, the Nan Copp Trophy in her 4th and 5th year for the top female basketball player in Canada, and the prestigious Howard Mackie Award as the best female athlete in all university sports.

Leighann has been active in Athletics in Action. She represented Canada at the World University Student Games in Spain in 1999, and in the same year, competed for Canada at the Jones Cup in Taiwan. In September 2001, she proudly carried the torch for Canada at the World University Games in Beijing. Currently (in 2002) she is playing professional basketball in Clermont-Ferrand, France.

Leighann is married to Chad Reimer. She has been involved in "Camp Teckla" for five years, and will be joined by Chad as head coaches in 2002.
