2019 - Angelina (Weber) Gandolfo

Angelina Gandolfo

Angelina Weber Gandolfo is a violinist and musician dedicated to the arts in her community. She is a currently a violinist with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, an ICSOM orchestra (International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians) under the baton of internationally acclaimed music director JoAnn Falletta. Angelina’s work with the VSO includes performances with the Virginia Opera as well, whose tours bring live opera productions to the cities of Norfolk, Richmond, and the Washington, D.C area.

In addition to her performance credentials, Angelina is invested in community outreach and education. The Virginia Symphony’s Community Outreach Program serves more than 45,000 local students every season. She travels with the VSO to local concert halls and high schools throughout coastal Virginia to perform the Young People’s Concert series, which allows elementary students to experience live orchestral performances with an educational component. Angelina has also been extensively involved with the VSO’s Generations in Unison program, where she performs in a string quartet at local nursing homes’ memory care units. Led by a specialized board certified music therapist, residents attending these programs sing along to familiar tunes and participate with provided instruments. The success of this program at local memory care units has led to its expansion at additional facilities. Outside of her work through the VSO, she is a violin instructor at the Virginia Beach School of the Arts where she maintains a private studio of young violin students.

Angelina grew up on a farm north of Castor with her parents Walter and Veronica Weber, and siblings Corwin and Nigel Weber. Her musical studies began at a young age on piano with her mother, and later expanded to violin studies with Tom Johnson and vocal studies with Dr. Ardelle Ries in Edmonton. With great support from teachers, students, and staff, Angelina graduated from Gus Wetter high school in 2008. After high school, she attended the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, graduating in 2012 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance, with Distinction. She continued her education at McGill University, earning a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance, in 2014.

Angelina has participated in numerous summer music festivals, through the support of grants from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Shean Foundation.  These include the Bowdoin International Music Festival, Meadowmount School of Music, The Castleman Quartet Program, Classical Music Festival in Austria, as well as summer studies at Indiana University. As an avid orchestral musician, she has played with the National Academy Orchestra of Canada, the Strauss Symphony of Canada, and the National Orchestral Institute Festival Orchestra. Angelina has performed as guest soloist with the Concordia Symphony Orchestra in Edmonton, and is an Alberta Provincial Music Festival award recipient in the category of Strings, Voice, and Creative Music. Currently, Angelina lives in Norfolk, Virginia, with her husband, VSO trumpet player Adam Gandolfo.
