Superintendent Peter Barron readies for next challenge!

On Wednesday, April 15, Superintendent of Clearview Public Schools, Peter Barron, announced his resignation at the Board meeting.  Mr. Barron will be leaving Clearview at the end of July 2020 to assume the role of Superintendent of Schools for Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools.

Mr. Barron joined Clearview as Superintendent in July 2014.  During his tenure Clearview has embraced many initiatives that have benefited students and staff including Google Apps for Education, Chromebooks, makerspaces, literacy programs as well as the implementation of the Start Right program for Pre-K children.  Clearview also adopted system-wide improvements including Hour Zero (an incident response system and PowerSchool (a new student information system). Mr. Barron is especially proud of the Collaborative Response Model, a program which teams up teachers to work together to support the most vulnerable students. These initiatives and others have contributed to a marked improvement in results in student achievement.

Superintendent Barron remarks, “I am immensely proud of the results we have achieved in Clearview over the past six years. We have an outstanding staff and very supportive communities. Although I am excited to take on this next challenge, the timing is not ideal given the outbreak of COVID-19.  I am confident, however, that schools will be back in session in the fall, and I will work to ensure a smooth transition.”

Superintendent Barron also supported many provincial initiatives, including the development of the new funding formula with Alberta Education, and served on the committee for the Alberta Rural Education Symposium.

Board Chair Greg Hayden shares, “As a Board we want to thank Mr. Barron for the excellent work he has done for us during his tenure as Superintendent.  He has brought a maturity and calmness to the role of Superintendent that we have valued, particularly when facing difficult decisions. We wish Peter all the best as he takes this new position with Wetaskiwin.”

At the April 15, 2020 public meeting, the Board of Trustees discussed next steps in a search for the next Superintendent.  A consultant will be contracted to begin the process to support the Board of Trustees in finding the best candidate. As part of the process, the Board of Trustees will soon develop an ideal candidate profile in consultation with school principals and Clearview leadership.

In reflecting on his time with Clearview Mr. Barron said, “My six years with Clearview are the highlight of my professional career. I am blessed to have worked here and to have made so many friends. I wish everyone, students, staff, and parents the very best in the future. I look forward to finishing the current school year here in Clearview and the chance to personally thank all those with whom I have had the privilege to work.”

Clearview wishes Superintendent Barron all the best!
