Return to Sports and Extracurricular Activities
Dear Clearview Parents/Guardians:
RE: Return to Sport and Extracurricular Activities
I would like to say I am extremely grateful for a wonderful start to the school year in spite of the challenges we are all facing together. As we navigate challenges this year we will continue to focus on our students' health and the creation of a rich school environment.
Accordingly, I am writing to inform you that, effective October 1, 2020, we are proceeding with a return to extracurricular sports/athletics in Clearview Public Schools. We know this is something many families and students have been waiting for and we thank you for your patience and understanding while we proceeded with caution to ensure a safe start up. Principals and staff have worked extremely hard to ensure safety was paramount and for that I am grateful. The return to school sports recognizes the importance that athletics plays for the mental and physical health of many students.
This return to play will focus on giving students the opportunity to participate in the sports that they enjoy and once again enjoy the camaraderie of teammates. Competition will not be the focus as the Alberta Schools’ Athletics Association (ASAA) has postponed provincial competitions in school sports until the Alberta Government moves to Stage 3. Although currently no competition between schools is permitted, guidelines will be formally reviewed on a month-to-month basis throughout the 2020-2021 school year and are subject to change.
There have been many questions about cohorts and student participation. The ASAA, in conjunction with Alberta Health Services, suggests that students will be able to practice and compete in both a school team and a club/community team at the same time. I hope this information will assist you in your decisions around your child participating in sport.
I am sharing the Clearview Return to Sport and Athletics Handbook. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1b_T27fZS5JsJjYblBiX62QoojCALW-wIo4G36wfSj0w/edit#
It has been developed to support the return to sports and athletics for the 2020-2021 school year based on the guidance put forward by Alberta Health Services, the Chief Medical Officer and Alberta School Athletics Association. This handbook covers protective and preventive measures to protect school athletes and coaches
Please contact your local school if you have any questions related to the resumption of sports and athletics at your school. The feedback of administrators, trustees, parents and students and the hard work of staff has made these changes possible.
