Wm. E. Hay SSC to transition to at-home learning for Grade 7

Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to navigate the challenges of COVID-19 and what is best for our students.

Due to the high number of staff and students that are impacted by either a positive COVID-19 determination or are close contacts for Grade 7, all students in Grade 7 will start at-home learning on Monday, May 3, 2021 and will return to in-person classes on Monday, May 17, 2021.  For Grade 8 to Grade 12, classes will continue in-school.

Students will be supported in their learning at-home: if your child needs a chromebook, you can arrange to pick one up at the school or if you need belongings from the school please contact our office.  Your teachers will be following up with further details for learning tomorrow.  Please have your child check their Google Classroom.

Further, please be advised an individual in Clearview has tested positive for COVID-19, impacting students Wm. E. Hay Stettler Secondary Campus.

The individual was present in the school on April 26, 27 or 28, 2021 and may have been contagious.  Please note that our division will follow the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy, and information regarding specific individuals will not be made public.

In collaboration with Alberta Health Services, we will be contacting only those parents/guardians of students and staff who have been in close contact with the individual who tested positive for COVID-19.  Close contacts will be called and followed up with a formal letter.  If you have not been contacted by 4:00 pm, Sunday, May 2, 2021 your child has not had close contact with this individual.

As part of our advanced planning, we were prepared to respond to this situation. Our school continues to remain open as per expected and we are working closely with Alberta Health Services to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff.  This includes cleaning and disinfecting all items touched by the individual and removing items that cannot be cleaned or disinfected, such as paper, books, etc.  Our maintenance/custodial team have already enacted all cleaning protocols as directed by Alberta Environmental Public Health.

We remind all parents/guardians to continue to closely monitor your children for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19. The Alberta Health daily checklist can be found here. Please remember to complete the checklist each day, whether children are attending school and/or getting on the school bus or not. As a reminder, if you/your child has any of the symptoms of illness listed on the Alberta Health daily checklist, please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811 and stay home/keep your child at home.

While this is a challenging time, we continue to trust that we can lean on one another for support and companionship. We are in this together and will be sending updates to families as information becomes available.

If you have any immediate questions, please also see Clearview’s on-line information for parents at https://www.clearview.ab.ca/COVID-19Parents.php or you may contact your school on Monday.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
