Parent Labour Action Update

Good afternoon, Clearview Public Schools families,
We are writing to provide an update on provincial labour negotiations involving Alberta teachers.

What’s Happening
In June, the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) reported that 94.5% of its members voted in
favour of strike action. This past week, the ATA’s Central Table Bargaining Committee (CTBC)
met with the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Committee (TEBA) for two days of negotiations.
According to public updates, no settlement was reached, and the CTBC has stated that the parties
are at an impasse. We respect the bargaining process and remain hopeful that TEBA and the ATA
will reach a settlement that is fair for all parties.

What This Means
At this time, all Clearview schools are scheduled to open and welcome students as usual on
Tuesday, September 2.
If the ATA decides to initiate strike action, the union must provide school boards with 72 hours’
notice. We understand that this uncertainty may be difficult for families, and we encourage you
to begin thinking about contingency plans should labour action occur. We will share any new
information with families immediately and post updates on our website.

Bargaining Process
Bargaining between TEBA and the ATA happens centrally at the provincial level. This means
that items such as teacher salaries are determined through a provincial collective agreement, not
by individual school boards. Local bargaining between Clearview and ATA Local 33 can only
begin once the central bargaining process is complete.
