Students living over 2.4 kilometres from their designated school may receive transportation at no cost. For other transportation services (school of choice, in-town busing, and yard services), the Board establishes and collects transportation fees where necessary. Should fees be established, it will be done in accordance with Alberta Government regulations and at rates established in accordance with Board policy.

Guidelines for Student Transportation Fees

  • Fees include School of Choice and In-Town Transportation Services
  • All riders in ECS - 12 should be registered in advance.
  • Fees for a family will be full fare for the first two students and half fare for other siblings.
  • For ECS their fare will be 50% of the regular fare if attending 3 days per week and full fare if attending full time.
  • Fares shall be paid in advance either on-line, or by cheque in full or by a series of post dated cheques.
  • Unless a family moves, no refunds will be allowed.
  • Students of families moving into an area during the school year will have fees pro-rated.
  • The Associate Superintendent may refund fees on a case-by-case basis.

Guidelines for Yard Service Fees

  • Where the legal guardian or a parent would like yard services for their child(ren), such services will be provided where the legal guardian or parent pays the determined fee for yard services.
  • Fees for services will be per yard and will be charged in full for services at an annual rate, except students of families moving into an area during the school year will have fees pro-rated.
  • Unless a family moves, no refunds will be allowed.
  • Fares shall be paid in advance either on-line, or by cheque in full or by a series of post dated cheques.
  • Fees can be waived by Transportation Services where:
    • a turn-around using the yard is determined to be operationally necessary; or
    • stopping the bus on the road would be in contravention to Occupational Health and Safety, as determined by the Director of Transportation Services and the Safety Coordinator.
  • Fees will be waived for yard services along Highways 12, 36 and 56.
  • The Associate Superintendent may refund fees on a case-by-case basis.
